Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for life in 1964.  The prison was Robben Island, the charge terrorism. The government justified his life sentence by claiming he sought to kill every white man, woman and child in the country by chasing them into the sea.  On his release, he did the exact opposite; as in this rare early interview, he made it clear that South Africa belonged to all South Africans:
