"Are they capable of education or incapable? Napoleon thought them incapable."
(1769-1821) was a French political and military leader who was Emperor of France between 1804 and 1815 (apart from 1 year spent in exile on the Isle of Elba). During this period he engaged in war with all of the main European powers. He was defeated by the British in the Battle of Waterloo in 1815, after which he was exiled again, this time to St. Helena.
He was responsible for establishing a legal structure in France known as the 'Napoleonic Code'. One aspect of the Code was the enshrinement in law of the supremacy of a husband over his wife and children.
