"I went down to Greenham Common with my friend Cathy in 1962. (I went again in 1981 but that is a different story)"

RAF Station Greenham Common is a former military airfield in Berkshire, England. Opened in 1942, it was used by both the Royal Air Force and US Army during WWII and the Cold War.

Greenham Common became a focus for demonstrations held by the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) and Committee of 100 for unilateral nuclear disarmament. In 1981, the Greenham Common Women's Peace Camp was formed in protest against the decision of the Government to allow cruise missiles to be based there.
