The Fianna were small bands of warriors in Ireland. They lived apart from society in the forests, but could be called upon by kings in times of war.

Key figures in Irish mythology, they feature in the stories of the Fenian cycle, where they are led by Fionn mac Cumhaill (Finn McCool).

Displayed in Dublin's National Museum of Ireland, the original Tara brooch is one of the most significant artifacts of early Christian-era Irish Insular art. At the end of the 19th century the discovery of such treasures as the Tara brooch inspired a revival of Irish culture.

The brooch mentioned in A Star Called Henry is probably inspired by the original Tara brooch.
