The earliest longbow found in England, at Ashcott Heath in Somerset, is dated to 2665 BC.

The image of the Englishman repelling invaders with his trusted bow has been passed down to us from folklore. He is seen in the figure of Robin Hood, and later in the slim form of Legolas, the elfen archer from The Lord of the Rings.
