"Louis MacNeice (1907-1963), poet, then working as a talks producer at the BBC"

Belfast-born Frederick Louis MacNeice CBE (1907-1963) initially wrote poetry and plays and counted WH Auden, whom he met whilst studying at Oxford, amongst his friends.

His BBC work saw MacNeice write and produce propaganda-type radio programmes during the war to garner support for the US, with more than 60 scripts created during this time as well as new poetry.

He later went to India to report for the BBC (1947) and also produced a six-part radio adaptation of Goethe's Faust in 1949.
