Lupus is an autoimmune condition in which the body’s defences attack healthy cells and tissue instead of protecting the body. Symptoms vary from person to person, including fatigue, joint pain and skin rashes. Here, Lenina is described as having purple eyes and coral teeth. These are not symptoms of the lupus but rather the effects of the red light within the Hatchery. Later, Lenina’s eyes are described as blue.
