Regarded as the father of modern socialism, Karl Heinrich Marx (1818-1883) was a German philosopher and economic historian who wrote The Communist Manifesto and Das Kapital. His ideas, known as Marxist, directly influenced the Russian Revolution in 1917 and the communist state that resulted for the following 64 years, as well as the Communist Revolution in China in 1947 and the government that remains in place there to this day, affecting the lives of millions.
