The American lobster, known familiarly as Maine lobster, can grow to be the largest crustacean in the world and is therefore a popular delicacy of U.S. cuisine. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the largest ever recorded weighed in at 44.4 pounds and was just over three and a half feet long. Dark bluish green to greenish brown in color, with red spines, rare mutations are fully blue, yellow, or red, but broiling turns lobsters a bright red.
