Dewberries, which grow on trailing brambles throughout the Northern Hemisphere, are closely related to blackberries, physically resemble raspberries but are purple to black instead of red, and provide a sweet basis for jams, pies, or cobblers. The European dewberry favors coastal areas, especially sand dunes, which explains its presence near Major Major’s office on Pianosa.
