Shaka (c. 1787- 1828) was the most influential of the Zulu kings.  Under his leadership, the Zulu nation attacked and conquered many other tribes, securing a large territory and absorbing many of the remnants of conquered communities into the Zulu kingdom.

Shaka has been lauded as a brilliant military strategist, but is also remembered for the brutality and violence of his reign.
