"You could go to prison for poaching"

Between 1788 and 1868 there were three hundred cases of transportation to Australia (out of a total of around 130,000 male convicts) for poaching offences. After 1828, if three or more persons assembled for the purposes of poaching and if one of them carried an offensive weapon, they were liable to fourteen years' transportation.

It is still possible to be sent to prison for poaching in the UK.
