The main reason this quote appealed to me was because in one sentence Mark was able to show how countries did not value the environment as much as they should.

This quote shows how oblivious people are, as they haven't been able to see the environmental issues up until 1968, especially because it's the United States- considered one of the most influential and developed regions.
