The Just So Stories, also known as Just So Stories for Little Children, were written by Rudyard Kipling, author of The Jungle Book.

The stories explain why animals became the way they are today and how common notions first came about. One details why rhinos have folds in their skin and such bad tempers, another how the elephant got his trunk, and another how the first alphabet came about.
