Oil platforms (also called oil rigs or offshore platforms) are structures built over the ocean to enable the extraction of oil and natural gas from the ocean bed. Some platforms are fixed to the ocean floor, some float, and others take the form of an artificial island. They are very large, and equipped with all facilities necessary to accommodate workers for a prolonged time.
