Stephan Zweig (1881-1942) was an Austrian writer best known for his novellas and biographies. He moved to Britain in 1934, following the rise of Nazism, and then to the USA. He committed suicide in Brazil in 1942, in despair at Europe's self-destructive trajectory.
Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) was an Austrian painter who specialised in interpretations of the female body. He is best known now for his painting The Kiss.
Arnold Schoenberg (1874-1951) was an Austrian composer and pioneer of atonality. He too left Austria in 1934, moving to the USA.
