"We passed through the vast Tanganda tea estates"

The first tea bushes came to Rhodesia from India, smuggled in a box in 1924 by Mrs Florence Phillips, an Assam tea-planter’s wife.  The harvest was such a success that a company, Ward and Phillips (Pty) Ltd, was established.

Tanganda Tea Company is the largest tea producer in Zimbabwe.  It is headquartered in Mutare (formerly Umtali).
