"when it was still a holiday camp for ordinary families"

Holiday camps such as those established by Billy Butlin were popular in the UK from the 1940s through to the 1970s.  However, the advent of cheaper foreign travel meant that their appeal started to decline and many closed in the 1980s and 1990s.  The adoption of an abandoned holiday camp as a recovery centre is a novel fictional appropriation.
