Alfred Rivera was convicted in 1997 for the murder of two drug dealers, Michael A. Nicholson and James E. Smith, and was put on death row. However, others had pleaded guilty to the murders and suspicions rose that Rivera may have been framed. Since jurors weren’t allowed to hear their testimonies, Rivera was retried and acquitted in 1999.
