"I needed to do something, so I volunteered with SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now)."

The Exchange Club Child Abuse Prevention Center of North Carolina, Inc. is a nonprofit institution founded in 1981 in response to increasing reports of child abuse. The Exchange adopted the parent aid (a.k.a. lay therapist) model, and Jennifer worked there with 2 family clients in their homes. By 1983, the program had expanded to include community awareness and support groups. Today the program is comprised of over thirty groups serving over 10,000 individuals over 12 counties in Northwest North Carolina. The central office is in Winston-Salem. Jennifer was awarded volunteer of the year during her time with the organization.
