Tobacco Road is a novel by Erskine Caldwell (1903-1987), an American writer from the Deep South. Written in 1932 during the Great Depression, it became a hugely successful Broadway show which ran for eight years. The novel describes the lives of poor sharecropper farmers in rural Georgia.
