Palladian architecture is a style which evolved from the designs of the 16th Century Venetian Andrea Palladio.  It bears strong resemblance to the clean, imposing lines so favoured by the ancient Greeks and Romans; a key feature being the use of columns as in the temples.  The Beast's home is likely to be quite old already for its time, so it could have been built when Palladianism was at its height of popularity in the 18th Century.  The style also found favour in the American colonies, and continues to provide inspiration today.
