"The allies bombed Hamburg"

As a large port and industrial area, Hamburg was one of Germany’s most bombed cities in World War II. The Battle of Hamburg lasted for 8 days, and was one of the largest and most daring air raids carried out by British and American air forces, with over 9,000 tonnes of bombs dropped on the city. Hamburg was virtually destroyed, and the operation was responsible for approximately 50,000 deaths.
