The fall of Louisa Musgrove is a pivotal point in the plot of Persuasion, a 18th century novel by Jane Austen.  The repercussions of the fall allow Captain Wentworth to recognise that he does not wish to marry Louisa, but rather his former fiancée Anne Elliot, who had ended their engagement seven years previously.

The shared plot of a man rejecting a younger and ostensibly more attractive woman for an older but more worthy one links Persuasion and this novel.
