"An old copy of the Philadelphia Ledger was on the floor"
A daily newspaper founded by William Moseley Swain in 1836, the Ledger was the first daily to use a pony express
and one of the first to use the electromagnetic telegraph
. It was also printed on the first rotary printing press
A decline in popularity meant that the morning and Sunday editions were merged into The Philadelphia Inquirer after 1934, and it was eventually closed in 1942.
