" Agua Florida "
was a unisex cologne popular in the nineteenth century. It was made by Lanman & Kemp and, in the 1880s and 1890s, was advertised as "The most Popular Perfume in the World". It remained popular in the American South, particularly among West Indian consumers, and was even incorporated into rituals such as hoodoo
and Haitian Vodou
. Not as pungent as a perfume, it is a subtly fragranced toilet water.
