Ludwig van Beethoven's Les Adieux ('Farewell') sonata, also known as Piano Sonata No. 26 in E-flat major, Op 81a, was completed in 1810. It was written to mark the enforced departure of Archduke Rudolf of Austria (Beethoven's patron) from Vienna during the siege of the city by Napoleon.
