Helen Humphreys was born in Kingston-on-Thames, England in 1961.
She lives in Kingston, Canada with her dog, Hazel.
Humphreys has written four books of poetry (Gods and Other Mortals, Nuns Looking Anxious, Listening to Radios, The Perils of Geography and Anthem), five novels (Leaving Earth, Afterimage, The Lost Garden, Wild Dogs, Coventry) and one book of creative non-fiction (The Frozen Thames).
She has won numerous prizes for her work, including the Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize, the 2005 Lambda Award, and the City of Toronto Book Award. Her novels Leaving Earth, Afterimage and The Lost Garden were named NY Times Notable Books of the Year.
