Virgil (70-19 BC) is regarded as one of the greatest Roman poets. He is best known for his epic, the Aeneid.

The line "Let there be gardens to tempt them, breathing saffron flowers" comes from The Georgics, a poem on the subject of agriculture written around 29BC.
