The term Sukhasana
is derived from the sanskrit sukha
(easy), and asana (pose). It is practised in yoga, Buddhism and Hinduism, and is similar to a simple cross-legged sitting position. The pose has the effect of opening the hips and lengthening the spine, and is a common position for meditation.
