'Moorish' refers to the Moors of North Africa, usually muslims of Arab, Berber or Black African origin. Othello, in Shakespeare's play, is a Moor, as is the Prince of Morocco in The Merchant of Venice.

Dorian described his Moorish lamp as 'dull silver inlaid with arabesques... studded with coarse turquoises'.
