Netting is a technique of making lace or fine net, which was used for a variety of clothing and decoration purposes – veils, underskirts, hair coverings, table coverings etc. Embroidery was very popular in the Victorian era, with lavish designs stitched onto dresses, gloves and household furnishings. It was a popular past-time for rich women, but seamstresses also embroidered, especially when something complicated or particular was required.
