The Hudson River flows north to south through the eastern part of New York State, covering a distance of 315 miles. Its source lies in the Adirondack Mountains, and at its mouth it forms the border between New York and New Jersey, draining into Upper New York Bay.

The river was explored in 1609 by Englishman Henry Hudson.
