Taj Mahal is the stage name of the blues musician born Henry Saint Clair Fredericks on May 17, 1942 in Harlem, New York and then grew up in Springfield, Massachusetts. His music is informed by a plethora of world music genre but especially by African American blues and the West Indies and Caribbean.
His first album Taj Mahal was released in 1968. He continues to be a sought after performer worldwide.
