In one of the few known examples of tool use by animals, chimpanzees have been observed "fishing" for ants by inserting a stick into an anthill and then slowly withdrawing it with ants clinging to the sides.

Chimpanzees will even shape the stick with their teeth to fit into a hole: they are tool-makers.
