The buttons visible on Judy's jacket are "Rude Girl" and a symbol of anarchy. "Rude boy" was a term for a juvenile delinquent in Jamaica in the 1960s, and it was used in various contexts from the '60s to the '80s. In England it was a term for members of the punk and/or gay culture.

The symbol on the back of Judy's jacket is two female (Venus) symbols joined together to resemble a male (Mars) symbol. This is not the most common way to make a lesbian symbol, but it is recognizable as such. "Joy Division," seen under the symbol, was an English rock band formed in 1976 and transformed into New Order in 1980, after the lead singer committed suicide.
