Daniel is an Old Testament prophet who interprets dreams and visions. One of the best-known incidents to befall him occurs at the feast of Belshazzar. When mysterious writing appears on the wall of the king’s palace, he enlists Daniel to interpret it for him. To his horror, Daniel reveals that the text announces God has decreed an end to his kingdom, the Babylonian empire, and will divide it among the Persians and the Medes, saying, “Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting” (Daniel 5:27).
