Penzance is a town and port in Cornwall. It enjoys a temperate climate, warmer than most of Britain because it faces southeast onto the English Channel and is sheltered by Mounts Bay. The population exceeds 21,000, and this more than doubles during summer when Penzance overflows with tourists.
Sir Henry Maximilian 'Max' Beerbohm [1872-1956] was an English essayist, parodist and caricaturist. He was educated at Charterhouse School and Merton College, Oxford University. It was here that he showed his talents in humorous drawings and figure sketchings. He attained great success in the United Kingdom and the United States with his drawings, but is also remembered for his writing and quotes.
