"the caverns and the grottoes of the sea tumbling peacefully to the wavering tides"

This recalls Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s visionary poem ‘Kubla Khan’, which follows the flow of the river Alph to the sea:

Five miles meandering with a mazy motion

Through wood and dale the sacred river ran,

Then reached the caverns measureless to man,

And sank in tumult to a lifeless ocean.
