"Stalin's son Yacov"

Although Joseph Stalin clearly treated his son with disrespect and outright abuse, it remains unclear whether Kundera’s account of the son’s death is an accurate one. In 2003, the United States Defense Department revealed that it had documents to indicate Yakov Dzhugashvili was shot trying to escape the prison camp, but his daughter Galina disagreed and said her father was never captured by the Germans but died in battle in 1941.

The metaphysical points the narrator is trying to make remain valid, or at least worthy of consideration, whether the Yakov tale is true or not.
