"glass of dry sherry"

A fortified wine, sherry is made from white grapes grown around the Spanish city of Jerez. ‘Fortified’ means that a distilled alcohol, e.g. brandy, has been added to the wine.

The English name ‘sherry’ derives from Jerez.
