Lord Mayor of London (not to be confused with the Mayor of London) is an ancient title first used in 1354.

It is conferred on an officer of the City of London who holds the title for one year and is elected by members of the City of London Livery Companies

Whilst in office, the Lord Mayor resides at the elegant Georgian building known as the Mansion House, which is situated at Mansion House Place in the City.

As mentioned in bookmark p.445, Bryant and May were the employers of the matchgirls who went on strike in the company's Bow factory in 1888.

Today, the former factory is a gated residential community known as the Bow Quarter.
