The First Battle of the Marne was fought between 5th and 12th September 1914, resulting in a victory for the Allies which ended a month-long German offensive.

The Second Battle of the Marne lasted from 15th July to 6th August 1918. It was the last major German Spring offensive on the Western Front during World War I. The offensive failed due to an Allied counterattack led by French forces which overwhelmed the Germans, inflicting severe casualties.
