Tolstoy rewrote this parable, which was a favourite of his, in a fuller version as God Sees the Truth But Waits, first published in 1872The protagonist Ivan Dmitrich Aksionov is wrongly convicted of murder and sent to Siberia, where he later comes into contact with the man who did commit the crime. Read the story online here.
