Alastair Vere Nicoll is a British entrepreneur, author, lawyer and Antarctic adventurer.
He was born in South Africa in 1973 and grew up in Australia and England. He read English literature at Oxford University, where he won an undergraduate scholarship and a double first class degree. He then trained as a lawyer and practised in a leading London law firm. Unfulfilled by the work, he left the firm to lecture on business law to post-graduates, whilst in his spare time planning and raising funds for the Antarctic expedition recounted in his first book, Riding the Ice Wind.
On his return from Antarctica he founded Berkeley Energy with three partners, building renewable energy plants in emerging markets.
He is married with two children and lives in London.
