Step One: Locate and Save Image
First, set up a "Book Drum" folder on your computer. You'll be storing images downloaded from the Internet in this.
For our example, we'll search Flickr.com for a photograph of the Atlas statue outside the Rockefeller Center in New York - as mentioned by Dava Sobel in Longitude.
Go to the Flickr Advanced Search page: http://www.flickr.com/search/advanced/?

And tick the three Creative Commons boxes at the bottom of the screen:

Click SEARCH to find all Flickr images with Creative Commons licences:

Click on your selected thumbnail:

Right-click the image and choose "Save Picture As..." to save the file to your Book Drum folder. Note where the Copyright Owner and Licence information are located.
This icon designates a Creative Commons Attribution licence
For any Creative Commons or GNU licensed image, you must give the name of the Copyright Owner:
You can credit "beggs, Flickr", but it's better if you can find the real name by clicking the Username link to reach:

And then clicking "Profile" to reach:

Step Two: Upload Image to Book Drum
In a Bookmark, a Setting Place or Author biography, click the Upload Image button:

Do this before you enter any text, as unsaved text will be lost on switching to the Image Upload function:

Click Browse to find the Atlas.jpg file in your Book Drum folder.
Choose the right licence from the menu options:

Give the image a suitable title, then enter the Copyright Owner's name and cut & paste the URL (Web address) of the site hosting the image:

Your completed form should look like this:

Save the image:

Step Three: Insert Image into Bookmark, Author page or Setting Place
Before inserting the image, enter your text and create any links. Too much editing after the image is inserted may lead to formatting issues.
Place your cursor at the start of a paragraph and click the Image Insert button:

Note: if the first word of the paragraph is a link, insert a space between your cursor and the link to avoid the link spreading to the Image credit (or vice versa).

Choose the size of image you want from the Image list menu:

Choose whether you want the image on the right or left of the paragraph from the Orientation menu:

Note: you can put a different image on each side of a paragraph. Place your cursor at the beginning of the paragraph for both.
Click Insert:

Your image will appear in place:

Note: If you have a slow connection, allow time for the image to appear fully before clicking Save on the Bookmark. Otherwise, the image will not insert properly.
When you save the Bookmark, the image credit will appear automatically, with a link back to the Flickr page:

If you want to edit the credit, you can do so by clicking "edit" on the Bookmark. The credit text will now be editable. You can also edit the main text, embed a video or upload more images.
